In order to proactively and systematically redefine Serbia's position in the field of nuclear energy, the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences has assumed the role of a key player by forming a Commission for Nuclear Energy on August 5th. This initiative represents a strategic response to energy challenges and opens a new era in the development of the domestic nuclear sector.
The task of the newly formed commission, which brings together leading experts and scientists, is not merely to reactively monitor global trends but to actively shape future policies and programs. The Commission will serve as a central expert base for decision-making, providing the necessary scientific and technical analyses for Serbia's return to a nuclear program.
The focus will be on preparing feasibility studies, analyzing potential technologies, assessing safety aspects, educating people, and disseminating knowledge, thereby ensuring a foundation for responsible and long-term planning. In addition to the above, the Commission's task is to educate both experts and the public.
The Director of the Vinča Institute, Dr. Slavko Dimović, emphasized the significance of this Commission: We have recognized the moment that this is the right time and opportunity to gather nuclear experts, top minds from the nuclear field, in one place and, through the joint work of a strong commission, to create a solid scientific basis for all future decisions and for the future development of Serbia's nuclear program.
The formation of the Commission is a clear signal of the Vinča Institute's commitment not only to preserving, but also to advancing nuclear knowledge and resources. Through this engagement, the Institute confirms its role as a pillar of science and technology in Serbia, ready to take a leadership position in key areas of national development.
The intention is for the Commission's work to establish synergy between the scientific community, industry, and state institutions in order to create a unified and efficient framework for making decisions on nuclear energy, while considering economic, environmental, and social factors.
It is expected that the commission's work will significantly contribute to public debate and raise awareness about the advantages and challenges that nuclear energy brings, to ensure a stable and secure future for Serbia's energy sector.
