The Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences and the Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Novi Sad have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research, innovation development, and the commercialization of research results.
The signing of the Memorandum confirms the shared commitment of the two leading scientific and educational institutions to developing national competencies in the areas of energy, digitalization, critical infrastructure security, sustainable development, and advanced technological systems. The agreement represents an important step toward strengthening the interdisciplinary educational and research ecosystem by connecting the scientific, engineering, and infrastructural capacities of the Vinča Institute and the Faculty of Technical Sciences.
Particular emphasis will be placed on developing human capacities in the field of advanced energy systems, supporting the energy transition, and advancing safe, intelligent, and sustainable energy solutions for the future of Serbia.
One of the most significant aspects of the Memorandum is the joint development and preparation of the Master's academic study programme “Nuclear Energy Systems.” The programme will include the development of modern curricula and laboratory activities, the application of simulation and digital approaches in education, and the active involvement of researchers and experts from the Vinča Institute in teaching activities. In this way, students will be provided with opportunities to acquire specialized knowledge and practical competencies in line with modern technological and industrial requirements, while also participating directly in scientific research projects and practical training.
The Memorandum also envisages intensified cooperation within national and international educational and research networks, including the preparation and implementation of joint projects under the Euratom and Horizon Europe programmes, as well as other relevant international initiatives. Particular importance will also be given to cooperation with international organizations and networks such as the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“We want young people not to leave this country, but to return to it; we want to export technology rather than import it. This is an example of how two major institutions can work together and set an example for others,” emphasized Dr. Slavko Dimović, Director of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences.
Professor Boris Dumnić, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences, stressed that “Serbia’s energy future will not be built solely through technology and infrastructure, but above all through knowledge and people,” noting that the partnership between the Faculty of Technical Sciences and the Vinča Institute represents an important step in developing new generations of experts capable of leading the energy and technological transformations of society.
By signing the Memorandum, the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences and the Faculty of Technical Sciences have strengthened the foundations of a long-term strategic partnership that will contribute to the development of science, technology, innovation, and education in the Republic of Serbia, while creating new opportunities for young professionals to build their careers in a modern research and innovation environment.
